About Crystal Crum, MS
Crystal is a compassionate and committed therapist who has had an expansive range of life experiences that have influenced and opened her perspective on life, family and culture. She was raised in a military family, married a military man and has been stationed overseas four different times. She is married to her husband of 32 years, is a mother of three adult children, and recently became a grandmother. She moved to Burke, Virginia in 2005 and has experienced the “NOVA pressure” but also has enjoyed the opportunities the area has offered the past 17 years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Radford University and her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. She is currently a licensed resident in counseling in the state of Virginia and is under the supervision of Lauran Thomas LPC at KS Services, LLC.
Crystal’s work experience includes working as an in-patient acute care social worker in California serving teens, adults and their families. She worked with a team of professionals treating clients with a variety of mental health conditions including anxiety and depression. Additionally, she worked as a recreational therapist at a long-term care facility in Washington D.C. and as a case worker serving out-patient clients through a county mental health clinic in Montgomery County, Virginia. When working at Franconia Family Therapy Center as an administrative assistant, she was inspired to pursue her master’s degree in counseling. The past year she has been employed at a clinical practice in the area providing therapy to clients under the supervision of a clinical psychologist.
Outside of mental health care work, Crystal was an active volunteer at her children’s schools and regularly served in women’s and youth ministry at her church. She was a volunteer at Lake Braddock Secondary School’s career center assisting students with future planning. She was a long-term and short-term substitute teacher for White Oaks Elementary School for many years and worked on staff at Burke Community Church as an administrative assistant for Women’s Ministry.
Crystal takes an eclectic therapeutic approach to counseling using a variety of person-centered, evidence-based practice techniques including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). As a practicing Christian, she can offer a spiritual perspective on the healing process if requested. Crystal currently works with teens, adult men and women, couples and seniors. She has experience working with anxiety, depression, mood dysregulation, gender confusion, eating disorders, grief from a loss, difficulties with life stage changes and dysfunctional relationships. She will meet you where you are and walk alongside you on your journey of identifying obstacles and pursuing change you seek.
