As we enter into the holiday season and the pressure to show up for multiple events, holiday parties, and the gift requests begin, I want to encourage us together to decrease the pressure by knowing connection is built in the small moments of life!
The small moments of everyday life are the building blocks of healthy relationships. An innate human need is connection. So how can we lean into the small moments with intentionality?
Look at family connections. Remember, family is not always blood, but those we care for and who care for us.
Below are a few suggestions to remind us how to do “small things often” in order to build connection with those we love.
Daily stress check-ins - Finding 15-minutes a day for quality connection with physical touch Sending short texts when not together to show that you care Enjoying traditions that you both agree on Being a great listener Being playful (Find something fun and easy to do together!)
Taking a walk to talk about the day (use conversation starters) Playing a game after dinner Nighttime stories Coffee at Starbucks Showing interest in their activities or hobbies Going outside to play catch
Phone calls Thinking of you texts Cards Discussing fun memories from the past
Meeting for a coffee or walk Enjoying a holiday activity together Remembering something important in their life
These are just a few ideas to get you started thinking about the small moments that create lasting connection. I encourage you to not get overtaken by the holiday season but to be intentional in how you create connection with those you love!
