Sondra is a Northern Virginia native who returned to the area several years ago after living both out-of-state and abroad with her military husband for 27 years. Sondra has a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Regent University, specializing in marriage, couple and family counseling. Sondra is honored to be working under the supervision of Lauran Thomas, LPC while pursuing double licensure in professional counseling and marriage and family therapy.

Sondra worked a variety of jobs as a military spouse but found her calling in helping cultivate resilient individuals and strong families. She has advocated for individuals to receive housing, psychiatric services, legal status, social security, and Veteran benefits while providing therapeutic aid. She has also worked with marginalized and underserved populations.

Sondra’s specialties include couple and family

issues. She is a product of the Fairfax County public school system and understands the stress and pressure students face in today’s cultural climate. Her experience as a military spouse gives her unique insight and knowledge into the specific issues that military families face, which she has utilized to counsel high-ranking military officers and special operations personnel. Sondra’s transient lifestyle as an adult and the experience of living abroad has prepared her to work with people from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Living in another country is a unique experience that requires flexibility and acclimation to one’s situation, and Sondra considers herself a multiculturally sensitive counselor.

Sondra’s approach to counseling is holistic. She believes in treating the whole person to include the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspect of each individual. Sondra will help you develop a plan to address specific challenges while considering your unique strengths, motivations, and available resources. She comprehends the investment required for counseling and wholeheartedly believes in its lifelong impact on the individual’s health and wellness journey. Acceptance, trust, and transparency are essential elements of the therapeutic relationship. Sondra is a Christian who offers faith integrated and spiritual practices into her counseling dependent upon your personal preference. Because of the intimacy of the counseling experience, Sondra offers a free 15 minute phone consultation to determine if she is the right fit for you.

Sondra has embraced being back in the D.C. metro area with its access to incredible arts, culture and parks that nourish the human spirit. In her spare time, she and her husband enjoy being active outdoors, hiking with their yellow Lab, kayaking, gardening, and exploring the many trails of Fairfax County. She is a food enthusiast, whose weekend plans often involve entertaining family or friends over a home-cooked meal.
