About Laura Waller, MS, NCC

Licensed Resident in Counseling of KS Services, LLC

Laura has been living in Northern Virginia for over five years with her husband and two elementary-aged children.  Laura has a Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University.  Laura is a Licensed Resident in Counseling, and under supervision, Laura's goal is to receive her professional counseling license in Virginia.

Laura enters the counseling field from an education background.  Having a Masters in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University, Laura taught Kindergarten and Second Grade in both D.C. Public Schools and in North Carolina.  Her commitment to education began while working with students in D.C. who were seeking to learn English as a Second Language.  Laura began as a reading specialist and then transitioned into full-time classroom teaching in order to establish stronger relationships with the students.  Laura also served as a refugee liaison in North Carolina, helping newly arriving Burmese refugees navigate the public school system by leading parent workshops, hosting after school programs, and training teachers in

refugee work. Working full time in the school system ignited a passion in Laura to help ensure that all children and families have the tools they need to feel successful.

Laura's approach to counseling is person centered - understanding that for positive change to occur, there must be a strong relationship of trust between the counselor and the client.  Laura's background in education allows her to focus on developmental skills for children and teens while creating an atmosphere of trust and safety.  When working with adults and couples, Laura works to create this same atmosphere of comfort, safety, and respect.  Laura is a member of NVLPC (Northern Virginia Licensed Professional Counseling), ACA (American Counseling Association), and Chi Sigma Iota (Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International).  She is available to work with children, teens and adults.

In her spare time Laura enjoys being with her family and husband. They are avid explorers of all things D.C.  If not exploring, her family is usually pool side as both children participate in swimming and diving.
