Emotional Literacy Group
A Group for 3rd-5th Grade Students to Learn About Their Emotions
KS Services is now offering a weekly Emotional Literacy Group for students ages 3rd-5th grade. Each week students will engage in activities to enhance their ability to effectively identify, regulate, and communicate about their emotions. Emotional literacy skills will be taught through the use of therapeutic art, games and play.
This group is designed for students ages 3rd-5th grade who are developmentally able to engage safely with peers and non-family authority members. Students should be
motivated to work with others and can engage in conflict resolution without tendencies for physical aggression towards others. There will be a minimum of four clients enrolled with a maximum of six students at any time. The group will be an open group, meaning that new students may enter during the semester if space is available.
Topics covered in our group time will include understanding and naming complex emotions, identifying effective coping strategies, and improving social skills to foster connection through effective communication, active listening, and empathy.

Facilitator
Community Connect is led by Laura Waller, a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Laura is also an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider with hours of continuing education regarding the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. Laura’s background in elementary education gives her a unique understanding of a child’s developmental stages, and she is able to use that background to foster a safe group environment that supports children where they are.
